THEATRE:
While a student at Bristol University, Joe had roles in several productions, including:
Camino Real, in which Joe played Kilroy, a former prize-fighter
The Old Tune, in which Joe played Gorman. The play is about two old-timers who run into each other and reminisce about their youth.
The Brecht Project (1998), "a collection of scenes taken from the works of Bertolt Brecht, performed by the first year Performance Studies students of the University of Bristol Drama Department". This was performed at the Wickham Theatre. There were a total of eight different scenes and it is unknown what scenes were included and what role(s) Joe played. (According to the Bristol website, this was part of the 1998-99 theatre season, but it seems Joe should have been a second-year student)
Women Beware Women (18-20 March 1999), in which Joe played Sordido. This was "the first performance in the newly refurbished Wickham Theatre", and was described in the program as "the culmination of a second-year unit which explores the aesthetics and issues around 'modernising' plays from the Early Modern Period". The performance was inspired by Peter Sellars' work updating Shakespeare and Mozart, which "seek[s] to draw out the social and political differences and parallels between two cultures".
